Elissa Slotkin - Democrat
Elissa Slotkin, a third-generation Michigander, grew up on her family’s farm in Holly, Michigan, where she learned the values of hard work and integrity that her great-grandfather instilled after founding Hygrade Foods in Detroit in 1949, known for creating local food staples like the Ballpark Frank. Inspired by these values, Slotkin dedicated her career to public service, a calling cemented after witnessing the events of September 11, 2001. She joined the CIA as a Middle East analyst, completing three tours in Iraq before serving in national security roles under Presidents Bush and Obama, addressing issues from ISIS to Russian aggression. Driven by a personal experience—her mother’s battle with cancer and the financial hardship due to pre-existing condition insurance costs—Slotkin entered politics to advocate for affordable healthcare. Since joining Congress, she has focused on reducing prescription drug costs, rebuilding domestic supply chains, creating dignified jobs, and fighting for political transparency. Now, she seeks to continue her service to Michigan’s working families in the U.S. Senate.
