Dr. Matt Longjohn - Democrat

Dr. Matt Longjohn is a nationally recognized public health leader with over 25 years of experience driving community-focused health initiatives. Named a top health innovator by the Obama Administration, he co-directs a course at WMed and leads the FRAME project. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Committee to Protect Healthcare and consults for organizations like the CDC. Formerly, he was the National Health Officer at YMCA of the USA, managing $100M in grants and leading a diabetes prevention initiative now covered by Medicare. He holds degrees from Kalamazoo College and Tulane University and lives in Kalamazoo County with his wife, Valerie.

41st District

Terry Haines - Republican

With 35 years of political involvement and support for Michigan candidates, Terry Haines is now retired after a 40-year career, during which he helped three companies uncover opportunities for additional income ranging from one to ten million dollars. He advocates for Robert Zubrin's "Energy Victory" plan to lower gasoline prices and reduce dependency on oil, positioning Michigan as an environmentally friendly state. A believer in free enterprise, Haines opposes monopolies and corporate capitalism that harm individuals or the environment. As a Christian, he supports religious freedom while valuing the influence of Biblical wisdom on Western civilization. Haines, author of How to Build a Universe in Six Days, emphasizes the importance of creative problem-solving. Additionally, he strongly advocates for the resolution of the Convention of States, mainly to implement a federal Balanced Budget Amendment.

43rd District

Danene Shumaker - Democrat

Danene grew up in rural Allegan County with a Republican father and a Democratic mother. She learned at the kitchen table that despite our differences most of us want the same things. It was important to her father that Danene attend college and she now holds two degrees. She received her Master of Education while working three part time jobs as a single mother. Teaching young people to serve and keeping people housed are things Danene feels passionate about. She is a published author and currently runs her own business.

84th District

John Wetzel – Republican

John is a graduate of Grand Valley State University.  After earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business & Information Systems, Wetzel joined the corporate world for a few years, including time with Alcoa Aluminum as an IT Systems Administrator. In need of a greater challenge, Wetzel ventured out and started his first small business.

Over the past 20 years, Pure POS, Inc. has become a cornerstone of the hospitality industry in the Greater Michigan Area, serving over 500 clients in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and even reaching as far as Florida. Their systems have been a game-changer for small businesses, helping them run smoother with top-notch technology and management solutions. Pure POS earned “POS Dealer of the Year” in 2007, and hasn’t looked back.  Wetzel plans to bring this knowledge, hard work, determination, and a common sense understanding of the Michigan business climate to Lansing as State Representative of District 84 in the upcoming election.

89th District

Lois E. Maassen - Democrat

Lois Maassen was born and raised in West Michigan, the daughter of a pastor and a public school teacher. A corporate career taught her about strategy, collaboration, and the importance of real information; from raising three kids to adulthood she developed empathy and patience. She is a long-time community volunteer, from leading a Girl Scout troop to chairing nonprofit boards.

Luke Meerman - Republican

Luke Meerman is a fifth-generation dairy farmer and lifelong resident of the 89th District from Coopersville. A father of five, Luke and his wife Victoria have raised their family on the family dairy farm and attend Chapel Pointe Church. As a dairy farmer, Luke has dedicated his entire career to Michigan agriculture and is a strong advocate for local farmers.

Kathy Pelleran-Mahoney - Democrat

Kathy Pelleran-Mahoney and her husband, Ken Mahoney, reside in Montague, with their family -- two daughters/sons in-law with six grandkids -- who live nearby. Pelleran-Mahoney is running for office because she believes that democracy is on the line – the rule of law, research-based decision-making, and our personal rights and freedoms. She believes that her decades of public service as staff to elected state and federal officials, as an elected college trustee, as the City Clerk for Montague, and as a nonprofit leader in Michigan, Arizona, and Moscow, Russia, have prepared her well to work for the people of Michigan’s 102nd District.
