Bill and Kathie Pendergast most recently assisted with the WGVU Real Oldies Car Show at the Ballpark on June 30th. They also volunteer with Experience Grand Rapids, RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program), the Steelcase Care Center, as well as WGVU.
Bill spent 37 Years at Steelcase doing a variety of jobs including engineering, production control, finance & purchasing. Bill’s last title was Project Manager when he retired from the Steelcase in 1994. Back in the 70s Bill became (too) involved in the All American Soap Box Derby and ended up spending 2 years on the National Control Board in Akron. Bill also was a member of the Grand Rapids Jaycees during this time.
Kathie has held a number of office positions including Executive Secretary to the Grand Secretary of the local Masonic Lodge, Secretary to the President of Redi-Bake, and Administrative Assistant to the President of Van Eerden, a food distribution company. She, too, retired in 1994.
Bill and Kathie took up sailing in 1985. With their second boat, they left the waters of Lake Michigan in 1996, traveled down the East Coast and spent two seasons as live aboard sailors in the Bahamas, their adventure of a lifetime. They sold the boat in 1999 and bought a motorhome. Cruised the States for 2 years and found a spot they like in South West Florida. They built a park model home there in 2001 and have been spending half their time there ever since. (Winters, of course.)
