WGVU Staff Spotlight
jim Vander Maas

JIM VANDER MAAS

Jim Vander Maas is a producer-director at WGVU.  He has managed numerous projects during his 10 years with the station.  Past awards recognize Jim’s contributions in several areas; most notably the inaugural ArtPrize 2010 in Grand Rapids, the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival, and profiles on student-athletes at Grand Valley State University.

Jim brought WGVU his experience in the field of video production, along with a genuine interest in sports.  He loves producing Grand Valley State Sports Report which highlights both the top-notch athletic program at GVSU, and the students who make GVSU an all-around Division II contender.  Another area of interest for Jim is developing the talents of students at GVSU who are interested in the field of video-production.  He enjoys being part of a team atmosphere with the students at WGVU and helping them get experience and knowledge to start their own careers.

Jim has been involved in video production for 30 years.  His wife Diane is currently serving as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer in Kent County.  Their daughter Rose, a registered dietician, is married and lives in St. Louis, MO;  son Tyler is currently studying in East Lansing, plans on attending graduate school next year, and fulfilling his career ambitions of composing and arranging music.
