Steve Savasky was born in Canton, Ohio, the oldest of six kids. After the unexpected passing of his Father, at the age of 12 his family moved to Michigan to be closer to relatives. He graduated from Midland High School and Ferris State University.
Steve has been in broadcasting pretty much all of his life. After serving a stint in the Army, Steve attended four years at Ferris State University earning a BS degree in Broadcast Electronics Technology. He then came to Grand Valley State University (College back then) and WGVU after ten years of employment at WWTV in Cadillac.
“I’ve been with the engineering department at WGVU since 1979. Although I have been involved in fixing electronic things from time to time, most of my time is spent watching over the computer aspects of Television Master Control hopefully spotting problems before they actually affect the on air product. It has been a continuous learning experience,” says Steve.
Steve said, “When I got into the broadcasting business, everything that affected whether the right show got on the air and at the right time was done manually. The computer you know today didn’t exist then.”
Much of Steve’s spare time is spent riding his motorcycle and being with people he cares about. “Retirement is coming soon and I am looking forward to that. I am a continuing member of WGVU and hope you are too,” says Steve.
